How To Find
Workers' Compensation Laws
The Nevada State Legislature Web
Site at http://www.leg.state.nv.us/ has the
complete text of most sources of Nevada Law. The Nevada
Revised Statutes (NRS) are the laws as passed
by the Nevada Legislature and signed by the Governor, and
organized into book format by the Legislative Counsel Bureau.
They are updated after each legislative session.
The Nevada Administrative Code (NAC)
contains the regulations drafted by the state agencies and
effective after hearing, and then approved by and compiled
into book format by the Legislative Counsel Bureau.
The statutes are the framework of Nevada law and the
Administrative Code fills in the details needed by agencies
who enforce the law or have regulatory powers. Updates to the
codes can be found at the Legislature Web Site in the Register
To
find the laws that define the workers' compensation
benefits:
- Print this page of instructions or use two screens so
you have continuing access to this page.
- Go to the web site http://www.leg.state.nv.us/
Click once only to avoid the second click activating a
hyperlink on the Nevada State Legislature Web Site.
- Click on the text or the button above the text that says
Nevada Law and Opinions
- Find the Revised Statutes
column of the table and click on the Table of
Contents hyperlink.
- After waiting for the statute chapters to load, you
should automatically be taken to a page that lists all the
chapters in the NRS (Nevada Revised Statutes). Then click
and drag on the scroll bar to the right of your page until
you find the hyperlink for Chapter
616C.
- Click on the Chapter 616C.
hyperlink and you will enter the laws setting workers'
compensation benefits.
- You may use the scroll bar to find the statute you want.
A faster method is to use the Windows "Edit" and
"Find in Page" feature to search for key words.
To find statutes
concerning vocational rehabilitation:
- When at the table of contents for 616C, click on
"Edit" and then "Find in Page".
- Type "vocational rehabilitation" (without the
quotation marks) in the box that prompts "find
what?".
- Click on the "find next" button. The search is
finding vocational rehabilitation within the statutes.
- If you know what statute number you want, you could use
the "Edit" and "Find in Page" feature
to go directly to the statute using the statute number.
For example, find the statute described as "Payment
of Vocational Rehabilitation Maintenance" by typing
its number, 616C.575, into the "find what?"
space and click on "find next".
Statutes referred to within the text of the statutes you are
reading are now hyperlinked for easy access.
Note that there
are five chapters that deal with workers' compensation:
- 1. Chapter 616A
- administrative issues and definitions
- 2. Chapter 616B
- the insurer's liability and provision of coverage
- 3. Chapter 616C
- the employee's benefits
- 4. Chapter 616D
- prohibited acts, penalties and prosecution
- 5. Chapter 617
- occupational diseases
Now if you click your back button two times, you should
be at the Legislative Page http://www.leg.state.nv.us/law1.htm.
From this page, find the second column of the table that
says "Administrative Code" and click on
"Browse". After the NAC (Nevada Administrative
Code) chapters are loaded you should be taken to a list of
chapter hyperlinks. The NAC chapters and NRS chapters are
similarly numbered, so again, scroll down to 616C. Use the
Windows "Edit" and "Find in Page"
features to find the Vocational Rehabilitation Section.
These regulations will explain in more detail what the law
is.
